Leaders of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York are considering putting up toll booths on the reservation as a means of generating revenue.

Tribal leaders said the need arises from the federal government's crackdown on Indian-owned gas stations. The IRS wants business owners to pay an 18-cent excise tax.

Tribal leaders said Indian businesses can't afford the tax, required on gas imported from Canada. The IRS has seized trucks headed for the reservation.
