First Nation leaders return from trip to Israel

First Nation leaders from Manitoba returned from a trip to Israel meant to build bridges between the Native and Jewish communities.

Thirty leaders representing 10 First Nations in Manitoba went on the trip, sponsored by the Assembly of First Nations and B'nai Brith. The group visited Jewish holy sites and a Holocaust memorial and learned about Jewish culture and history.

The trip was the second since David Ahenakew, a former AFN chief, made remarks justifying the Holocaust. He is facing a trial on hate crimes charges.
