BIA approves Skull Valley Goshute garbage dump

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved a 50-year lease for a landfill on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah.

Some tribal members objected to the deal. They said it would damage Native American Church sites.

The deal will bring the tribe at least $15,000 a month. It will be the first "balefill" site west of the Mississippi. Household garbage will be compacted into bales after recyclable material is removed.
