Voters of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians will go to the polls July 17 to decide on a chairman.
Incumbent Marc Macarro is running again. He has served as chairman since 1994, when he was appointed to the position. He was elected to the post in 1996.
Norman Pico Sr., a former council member, is the rival candidate. A veteran, he says he has different ideas than the current council.
One issue in the race is the disenrollment of more than 100 members of an extended family. Pico opposes their removal from the tribe.
Macarro is endorsed by a group that is seeking the ouster of some families within the tribe.
