The chairman of the Seneca Nation tribal council says out-of-state tribes don't have any sovereign rights in New York.
Barry Snyder says he is not worried about a deal Gov. George Pataki (R) is negotiating with the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma. "They have no legal, federal basis for being here other than trying to assert they're from here," Snyder told The Buffalo News. "They don't have any rights here."
Snyder says the federal government would never approve a casino for the Seneca-Cayugas. Pataki is said to be close to a deal that would allow the Oklahoma tribe to open two casinos on ancestral territory in New York.
