Sacred site provision rejected in House vote

The House voted 215-209 against a measure designed to strengthen protections for sacred sites located on federal land.

Rep. Nick Rahall (D-West Virginia), the ranking member of the House Resources Committee, offered the provision as an amendment to the Interior appropriations bill. It is meant to strengthen an executive order signed in 1996.

Rahall said he was disappointed with the vote. Almost every Republican voted against it.
