Oneida Nation families resist evictions pending appeal

Four Oneida Nation families facing eviction from their homes on tribal territory say they will stay put until their appeals are exhausted.

In a ruling last Friday, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals expressed some sympathy with the families' plight. But the court said it couldn't intervene in an internal tribal dispute.

The families say they are being targeted for speaking out against the tribal leadership. They will seek a reconsideration of the ruling by a full panel of the appeals court. If that fails, they plan to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case.
