The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to announce today whether it will hear the Oneida Nation's treaty rights case.
The tribe won a 2-1 ruling affirming the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals said the tribe was free of state and local taxes on land within the treaty area.
The city of Sherrill is challenging the ruling. The state of New York and two counties filed briefs to support the city.
