Questions remain as Aquash murder trial starts

The trial into the murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash begins in federal court in South Dakota today.

Pictou-Aquash was found dead on the Pine Ridge Reservation in February 1976. Authorities had little to go on at the time due to a veil of secrecy surrounding AIM. One investigator said he heard "whispers" about the possible involvement of AIM members.

Those rumors led to the arrest of two men said to have been with the group. The trial of Arlo Looking Cloud is expected to reveal more about AIM's alleged involvement. AIM leaders have blamed each other for her death.
