Ex-BIA employee resentenced for drunk driving deaths

A former Bureau of Indian Affairs employee was resentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Monday for causing the deaths of four people during a drunk driving accident in New Mexico.

Lloyd Larson received the exact same sentence handed down in August 2002. But he challenged the length of his prison term, which was an "upward departure" of normal sentencing guidelines.

Larson was driving a BIA vehicle at the time of the January 25, 2002, crash. He has a history of drunk driving but was allowed to operate BIA vehicles. The BIA has since strengthened its policy against drinking and driving.
