A partnership of three tribes will break ground on a $53 million hotel in Sacramento, California, today.
The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin is working with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indian and the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, both of California, on the 15-story Marriott Residence Inn. The hotel is located three blocks from the state capitol and is expected to open in March 2006.
Along with the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe from Wisconsin, the tribes built a $43 million Residence Inn by Marriott in Washington, D.C., three blocks from the U.S. Capitol. The hotel will open in January.
The tribes see the effort as a diversification of their economic holdings.
