Manitoba's Health Department released a plan on Tuesday aimed at combating high rates of diabetes among Natives in the province.
Health Minister Tim Sale says diabetes was unheard of a generation ago. Now he says it has reached epidemic levels among First Nations. More than 20 percent of Natives have the disease and, in some communities, as many as 50 percent suffer from diabetes.
The Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative emphasizes lifestyle changes and early detection.
