Chinook Nation boycotts Lewis and Clark events

The Chinook Nation of Washington is boycotting the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial over a dispute with event organizers.

The Chinooks say the National Council of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial is allowing an illegitimate group to participate in the events. The Clatsop-Nehalem Confederated Tribes are included in the "signature" event in November 2005.

The Chinooks say the Clatsop-Nehalems are not the true descendants of the Chinooks who met Lewis and Clark 200 years ago.

Both the Chinooks and the Clatsop-Nehalems are seeking federal recognition.
