Former president Bill Clinton will meet with tribal leaders in New Mexico this weekend, The Albuquerque Journal reports.
Clinton is campaigning for Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry. He will spend time in Santa Fe on Saturday and in Albuquerque on Sunday, where the tribal meeting is to take place.
The All Indian Pueblo Council, which represents the 19 Pueblo tribes, has endorsed Kerry.
The Navajo Nation, parts of which are located in New Mexico, also endorsed Kerry through President Joe Shirley Jr. and the tribal council.
The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque will hold a reception tonight in honor of Miguel H. Trujillo, an Isleta Pueblo veteran who fought for the right to vote. He won a court lawsuit in 1948 after being refused registration.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano will join Shirley and Navajo Nation Council Speaker Lawrence Morgan on KTNN radio tonight to urge Navajos to vote.
