Pollster says Indian vote is critical in South Dakota

Indian voters in South Dakota are likely to decide who wins the upcoming U.S. Senate race, a leading pollster says.

John Zogby of Zogby International says the race between incumbent Tom Daschle (D) and challenger John Thune (R) is close. "The Indian vote in South Dakota is larger than almost anywhere else, and given the closeness of the race, that could put one candidate over the top," Zogby told The Rapid City Journal.

Zogby's latest poll puts Daschle ahead but only by a small margin. Of the 17 Indians contacted, 14 said they support Daschle.
