The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is running a television campaign in hopes of persuading voters to support the tribe's development plan in Palm Springs, California.
The city council already approved the tribe's plan. But Measure U on the November ballot asks voters to rescind that approval.
The tribe doesn't need permission to develop the land in downtown Palm Springs. Known as Section 14, the square-mile region is part of the reservation and some parcels are held in trust for individual tribal members.
But local residents oppose plans to rezone the area for commercial development. The tribe has envisioned hotels, restaurants and other entertainment in Section 14.
