Tribe's Palm Springs proposal up for city meeting

Opponents of a plan to turn an area of downtown Palm Springs, California, into an entertainment district say they will voice their objections at a city meeting tomorrow. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is proposing hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, a theme park and other attractions on land it owns in Palm Springs. But a group called the Committee for Local Government Accountability says the tribe wants to turn the city into Las Vegas. The tribe's master plan is up for consideration by the Palm Springs Planning Commission tomorrow. Some city officials support the plan even though the tribe doesn't need city approval. Get the Story:
