The chairman of the Fort Peck Tribes of Montana was removed from office on Monday.
The tribal council voted 11-1 to remove John Morales for failing to carry out several duties, including signing a pipeline-related lease. The council said the Bureau of Indian Affairs has approved of the process.
Morales was suspended last month and has contested the tribal council's actions. He called a general council meeting on Sunday where voters ousted most of the council.
