Republican lawmakers from Connecticut met with Interior Secretary Gale Norton on Tuesday to discuss their concerns about the federal recognition process.

The lawmakers said the meeting was not fruitful. Rep. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) said Norton isn't paying attention to the issue and hadn't even read a recent memo that said the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation did not meet all federal recognition criteria.

"The meeting was not satisfactory at all," Shays told the Associated Press.

According to the AP, Norton refused to answer questions as she was leaving the meeting.
