Testimony about the American Indian Movement did not convict a man accused of murdering AIM activist Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash, a juror told The Rapid City Journal.

Laura Franklin said it was Arlo Looking Cloud's admission that he helped transport Aquash from Colorado to South Dakota and his admission that he was present at her shooting that convicted him. She said testimony about the alleged involvement of AIM higher-ups and the alleged violent nature of AIM did not factor into the guilty verdict for Aquash's murder.

Franklin said the jurors were able to see Looking Cloud throughout the entire trial. She said he slept through portions.

Looking Cloud's alleged accomplice, a Native man from Canada named John Graham, is fighting extradition to the U.S. He is scheduled to go to the court today.
