New York Gov. George Pataki (R) is calling on a one-year delay in the collection of state taxes on reservations.

Pataki said he will use the time to work out so-called "price parity" agreements with tribes. Indian businesses would basically end up charging the same taxes as off-reservation businesses.

Last year, the state Department of Taxation and Finance proposed new regulations to impose state taxes on Indian retailers. But in response to major opposition,, the rules are being delayed until this March.

Pataki made his request in his new budget, which also depends on revenues from tribal casinos, including some that have not been approved, and from an expansion of video lottery terminals.
