Lawmakers target Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino
Friday, January 21, 2011
Lawmakers in Arizona are once again trying to stop the Tohono O'odham Nation from opening an off-reservation casino.
A bill in the House and the Senate would allow the city of Glendale to annex the tribe's property without the tribe's consent.
Lawmakers believe annexation will prevent the Bureau of Indian Affairs from placing the tribe's land into trust.
A similar bill failed last year after tribes nationwide spoke against the effort.
