Judge allows Arizona governor brief in Tohono O'odham lawsuit
Friday, December 17, 2010
A federal judge said Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) can file a brief in the lawsuit against the Tohono O'odham Nation
off-reservation casino.
Brewer opposes the tribe's casino bid. She isn't officially a party to the litigation but will be able to participate as a friend of the court.
The tribe plans to build a casino near Glendale, Arizona. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has agreed
to take 53 acres in trust for the tribe but hasn't determined whether the land
is eligible for gaming.
The lawsuit was filed against the BIA by the city of Glendale and the Gila River Indian Community.
