The
Miss America pageant will be held in Indian Country for the first time this year.
The
Mohegan Tribe will host the 2020 Miss America competition at its gaming facility on December 19. NBC will telecast the event live from the
Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
“Miss America is a storied organization that has a long history of empowering women, providing tremendous educational resources to women and serving the overall public good,” Ray Pineault, the president and general manager of
Mohegan Sun, said in a
press release. “Like the Miss America Organization, Mohegan Sun celebrates the successful and inspiring women within our company and the Mohegan Tribe. We’re thrilled to be hosting an impactful event like the Miss America Competition in December, and we look forward to working with both Miss America & NBC on what will be a tremendous evening.”
The competition has been held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for most of its 98-year history. It took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a few years.
The current Miss America is
Nia Franklin of New York, who was crowned on September 9, 2018
