Officer from Puyallup Tribe involved in fatal shooting

Authorities in Washington are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting outside of the casino owned by the Puyallup Tribe.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the incident took place in the parking lot at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma. It occurred around 1am on Tuesday morning.

"Please understand that we are not releasing further details at this time," the FBI said in the afternoon.

The Puyallup Tribe also issued a statement to local media, confirming that one officer was involved. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the FBI investigates, according to the statement.

The parking lot at Emerald Queen has been the site of prior shootings. In April 2017, two men opened fire on each other although they had not been inside the casino itself prior to the incident.

In 2015, a citizen of the Crow Tribe was charged for murdering another man in the parking lot. Jeremy Schlenker was later sentenced to 26 years for the death of Brandon Williams. Schlenker had been inside the casino before the shooting.
