Trinidad Rancheria plans 100-room hotel adjacent to casino

The Trinidad Rancheria is planning to build a 100-room hotel adjacent to its casino in northern California.

The hotel is to be located on 0.4 acres at the Cher-Ae Heights Casino. It would be branded as a Hyatt Place property, according to an environmental assessment.

“The community here is excited about the potential of the hotel,” David Tyson, the interim director of the Trinidad Rancheria Economic Development Corporation, told The Mad River Union.

But non-Indian neighbors aren't happy. A group called the Humboldt Alliance for Responsible Planning is holding a meeting on Thursday to discuss what it says is a "lack of public input" about the project.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is taking public comment on the project. The environmental assessment was prepared because the tribe is seeking a federal loan guarantee to finance the hotel.
