Mohegan Tribe 'ain't afraid' to pursue a casino in Japan

The Mohegan Tribe is among the many entities interested in a casino in Japan now that gaming has been legalized in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Though final passage of the Integrated Resort Implementation Act just occurred on Friday, the licensing process could take years, The New London Day reported. But the tribe remains committed even as other gaming giants have indicated they will join the race, Chairman Kevin Brown told the paper.

“We ain’t afraid,” Brown said in an interview with The Day.

Even though Japan is a few years away, the paper notes that the tribe will have already completed the first phase of Inspire, its $5 billion gaming project in South Korea. Plans call for a casino near Seoul, the nation's capital, to open in 2021.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation also has expressed interest in Japan.
