The casino on the
Whitecap Dakota First Nation made history last week with a $1,822,621.97 jackpot, its largest ever.
Marlon Weekusk won the record payout on progressive slot machines at the
Dakota Dunes Casino in Saskatchewan on June 6. He has big plans for his winnings.
“I plan to help my parents, buy a home, and travel," Weekusk said in a
press release. "I will be travelling over the next couple of months and I want to help out my family.”
But Weekusk nearly missed out on his earnings, The Saskatoon StarPhoenix reported. He was walking away from the slot machine until someone else stopped him, the paper said.
“I still can’t believe it," Weekusk, who works as a welder, told the paper.
Dakota Dunes has awarded more than $13 million in progressive slot machines, according to the facility. All six of the First Nations casinos in Saskatchewan are linked to the system.
“On behalf of SIGA’s Board of Directors, management and staff, I would like to formally welcome Mr. Weekusk to SIGA’s millionaire club,” said Zane Hansen, the president and chief executive officer of the
Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, which oversees the six casinos.
