Grand Traverse Band arrests non-Indian for sexual assault at casino

A non-Indian man in Michigan is facing numerous charges after being accused of sexual assault at the casino owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.

Tribal police arrested Jake Alexander Daubenspeck, 22, on February 17 after he allegedly groped a woman at the Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel, The Traverse City Record-Eagle reported. He had made lewd comments about her and followed her in an elevator in the hotel, the paper said.

Daubenspeck is now facing five charges in Grand Traverse County, including two charges of criminal sexual conduct, according to court records. The other three charges are connected to other assault incidents on the same night at the casino, the Record-Eagle reported.

Daubenspeck pleaded not guilty on March 15. He is due back in court for a pre-trial proceeding on March 30.
