The
Oneida Nation held a log-cutting ceremony last week as it opened the doors to its third gaming facility in New York.
The $40 million
Point Place Casino in Bridgeport features nearly 500 slot machines, 20 table games, two eateries, two bars and a chocolate shop and bakery. The 65,000-square-foot facility has put more than 200 people to work, the tribe said.
“This is a very exciting day for the Oneida Indian Nation, our employees, the Bridgeport community, and for the entire region," Ray Halbritter, the tribe's representative and the CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises, said in a
March 1 press release. "Point Place Casino will provide local residents and people throughout the region a new destination for food, entertainment and fun.”
The tribe also operates the
Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango, not far from Point Place. The flagship
Turning Stone Resort Casino is located in Verona, about 22 miles from Bridgeport.
All three facilities are
located near Syracuse, the fifth most populous city in New York and the economic and educational hub in the central part of the state.
One non-Indian facility has opened in the area, and two are located to the south and east of tribe's territory.
Despite the competition, the tribe has no plans to build more casinos, New York Upstate reported. There are no plans for a hotel at or near Point Place either, the site said.
