Otoe-Missouria Tribe breaks ground on expansion project at casino

The Otoe-Missouria Tribe is hoping to lure more families to its casino in Oklahoma.

The tribe broke ground on Wednesday on an expansion of the 7 Clans First Council Casino Hotel in Newkirk. The project includes 20,000 square-foot indoor water park, an arcade, diner, coffee shop and an additional 60 suite-style rooms at the hotel.

"Building upon our outstanding gaming and hotel facilities as well as our unique concert venue, we look forward to offering even more entertainment options to our patrons and their families," Chairman John Shotton said in a press release. "The expansion will provide a family entertainment experience unlike any other in our region."

Work is expected to move quickly. The tribe plans to debut the expansion by the end of the year.

In addition to the 7 Clans in Newkirk, the tribe also operates two casinos, one in Red Rock and another in Perry. There are also two "gasinos," or gas stations featuring gaming machines, in Newkirk and Red Rock.
