The
Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians opened the doors to an
expansion of its casino in southern California.
The centerpiece of the project at the
Viejas Casino and Resort is the
Willows Hotel & Spa. The 159 rooms in the five-story hotel are being marketed as "adults only."
“We aimed to create a distinction between us and everyone else,” Chairman Robert Welch, Jr. said at the grand opening on Thursday, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
The gaming floor hasn't been neglected, though. The tribe added 12,000 square-feet and more than 300 slot machines to the space, the paper said.
Then there's the food. According to Eater San Diego, the casino features three new eateries -- an upscale restaurant, an Asian eatery and a casual cafe.
The tribe created another 750 jobs as part of the project. It's one of six tribal expansion projects that are bringing 3,000 jobs to the area.
