The
Forest County Potawatomi Community broke ground on an $80 million hotel tower at its casino in Wisconsin.
The 19-story tower, the second at the
Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, adds another 119 rooms to the facility in Milwaukee, bringing the
total number of rooms to 500. Work is expected to be complete in the spring of 2019.
"This expansion marks another example of growth in Potawatomi's footprint here in Milwaukee's Menomonee Valley," Rodney Ferguson, the chief operating officer and general manager at the casino, said during the December 14 ceremony, he Milwaukee Business Journal reported. "Since opening up the bingo hall on a snowy day in March more than 26 years ago, this property has grown and made a profound impact in areas of entertainment, tourism and economic development in Milwaukee and the surrounding region."
The casino is located just a couple of miles from downtown Milwaukee.
In1990, it was the first to be approved under the two-part determination provisions of the
Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act.
The casino is normally open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But it underwent a
temporary closure on Sunday evening for a "systems upgrade," a
post on Twitter read. It's due to reopen at 10am on Monday.
