Spirit Lake Nation casino liquor sales back on the agenda after tribe canceled vote

Citizens of the Spirit Lake Nation are circulating a petition in hopes of authorizing the sale of liquor at the tribe's casino in North Dakota.

Supporters believe liquor sales will draw more business to the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort, WDAZ reported. The Spirit Lake Liquor Ordinance Referendum group is collecting signatures to put the issue to a vote of the people.

"I think it'd be a good thing because we could book some weddings, I mean 300 more people on the floor means 300 more possible gamblers that would go play on the machines,” Peter Owlboy Jr. told WDAZ.

The tribe was supposed to hold a referendum on liquor sales in May. But the council abruptly canceled the vote, The Devils Lake Journal reported at the time.
