Pokagon Band on hiring spree as first tribal casino in Indiana takes shape

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians is looking to fill 1,200 jobs at its newest gaming facility.

The tribe is holding job fairs and opening an employment office in South Bend, Indiana, as part of its hiring spree. The positions will be filled in time for an opening of the Four Winds facility in early 2018.

"One thing about Four Winds is it's not a job, it's a career," Torie Winchester, the vice president of human relations, told WSBT. "So, if you're interested in coming here and starting a career, we offer upward growth mobility."

The casino will be the first Indian gaming facility in Indiana. It's going up on a 166-acre site in South Bend that was placed in trust by the Bureau of Indian Affairs during the Obama administration.

The tribe operates three casinos under the Four Winds name. The first one, in New Buffalo, Michigan, opened in August 2007. A 10th anniversary celebration is being planned.

The tribe's service area, as defined by Congress, covers 10 counties in Michigan and Indiana. Most tribal citizens live in the service area.
