Washoe Tribe celebrates first anniversary of unique gaming facility

The Washoe Tribe celebrated a gaming milestone last weekend.

The Wa She Shu Casino in Nevada debuted in May 2016. The facility is unique not only because it's the tribe first but also because it was opened in partnership with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians from Alabama. The two tribes also worked together on the travel plaza at the site.

"The goal is to improve the lives of the Washoe tribal membership through economic development, and so far, we have had great success in employing tribal and community members at both entities," Washoe Chairman Neil Mortimer said in a a press release, referring to the casino and the travel plaza.

There is space on the grounds for a potential expansion of the casino
