A report of a kidnapping at the casino owned by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota turned out to be false.

Angela Pam Randall, 56, claimed she was forced to drive James Cowan, 37, away from the Grand Casino Mille Lacs in Hinckley last month. But after tribal police questioned Cowan and local authorities reviewed surveillance footage from the facility, Randall's story began to unravel, The Mille Lacs County Times reported.

Randall, 56, is now facing a misdemeanor charge of falsely reporting a crime, the paper said. Kidnapping, stalking and assault charges were dropped against Cowan.

Cowan, however, still faces a drug possession charge because tribal police found him with methamphetamine when they arrested him last month.
