The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians reopened the hotel at its casino in Michigan after a major cleanup effort.

A customer who stayed at the Lac Vieux Desert Resort and Casino was diagnosed with Legionnaire's disease. Since the bacteria that causes the disease can be found in water systems, the tribe engaged in testing and remediation to make sure guests remain safe.

"We are working with relevant officials and experts to ensure this matter is handled appropriately," the casino said on Facebook before the hotel reopened. "We are being told that we are going above and beyond what is required of us, which is pursuant to the commitment we make to all guests who choose our hotel."

Some Legionella bacteria was found at the hotel but it was not confirmed to be the same type that causes the disease, KLUC reported. The casino and restaurant remained open because no signs of bacteria were found there, the tribe said.
