Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation promotes gaming plan in Illinois

The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas presented plans for a Class II gaming facility in Illinois at a public meeting on Tuesday night.

Treasurer Hattie Mitchell said the casino will create 655 construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs, The DeKalb County Chronicle reported. She estimated $17 million in annual payroll and $12 million in purchases from vendors around the state, the paper said.

The 128-acre gaming site falls within the historic Shab-eh-nay Reservation in present-day DeKalb County. The tribe has filed a land-into-trust application for the property.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is preparing an environmental impact statement for the project. Written comments on the scoping report can be submitted through February 22.
