The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians presented plans for a second gaming facility to the village of Mackinaw City last week.

The tribe hopes to break ground next month and have the first phase completed by May 2016, The Cheboygan Daily Tribune reported. The initial 56,000 square-foot structure would feature about 64 gaming machines.

"We want to be a good neighbor; we want to be a property that’s going to fit in with the community," Eric McLester, the general manager of the Odawa Casino Resort in Petoskey, about 37 miles away, said at the meeting, the paper reported.

McLester confirmed that the tribe won't need approval from the village if it only offers Class II games at the site. The tribe won't be required to share revenues with the community in that situation.

But if the tribe goes with Class III games, the village's approval will be needed under the Class III gaming compact. The agreement requires 2 percent of Class III revenues to go to the community.

The village will discuss the issue at its meeting this Thursday.
