The Red Lake Nation of Minnesota could offer liquor at two of its gaming facilities if voters approve a referendum next month.

Secretary Donald Cook supports alcohol sales at the Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls and another in Warroad. He said the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and the White Earth Nation offer liquor without problems.

"When people are gambling or when they go out, they want to have a drink with their meal," Cook told The Bemidji Pioneer.

The referendum takes place August 19 and the outcome will be binding on the tribe. A prior vote against liquor was only advisory in nature.
