The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is defending its decision to fire a casino employee who helped a high roller break the rules at a blackjack table, the Associated Press reports.

Maria DeGiacomo worked at Mohegan Sun for 18 years, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her career ended earlier this year because she let Matthew Menchetti, a regular at the facility, place late bets even though they aren't allowed at the tables.

Although the state investigated the incident, DeGiacomo was never charged with a crime for helping Menchetti, who lost $1 million at the casino last year, the AP reported. She's now disputing her firing before the tribe's gaming commission.

"I have to make sure that we get our money, which we did, every time he played. There's maybe two times he won," DeGiacomo testified during a commission hearing, the AP reported.

The casino's president also testified and said the tribe does not tolerate activity that violates rules and regulations, the AP reported. And Menchetti, whose golf management company filed for bankruptcy last year, was removed from the casino for placing late bets
