The Bear River Band of California will break ground next week on a multi-purpose center next to its casino.

The 23,000 square-foot Bear River Recreation Center functions as a gym and activity center during the day. At night, it will transform into a venue for entertainment and concert events at the Bear River Casino Hotel.

“The Bear River Recreation Center will become the premier concert and event center in Humboldt County and will allow us to bring bigger and better entertainment to our valued customers on a more frequent basis," John McGinnis, a tribal member who serves as general manager of the casino, said in a press release.

Construction will take about a year so the facility will open sometime next summer.
