Colville Tribes welcome public to $43M flagship gaming facility

The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington opened the doors to a $43 million gaming facility on Wednesday.

The 12 Tribes Resort and Casino is the largest gaming facility on the reservation. It features a 56,000 square-foot gaming floor with 500 electronic gaming machines and table games, two lounges, two restaurants and an 80-room hotel with meeting space and an indoor/outdoor pool.

“The Colville tribe has something to be proud about,” Vice Chairman Mel Tonasket said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony the day before the grand opening, The Tribal Tribune reported. “It makes my heart happy to see what the Colville tribe has done in just a few years.”

The casino is located in Omak, near the northwestern edge of the reservation. The site was chosen in part to attract visitors from Canada, about 50 miles north to the border of British Columbia.

The casino draws its name from the 12 tribes on the Colville Reservation -- Colville, Nespelem, Sanpoil, Lakes or Sinixt, Palus, Wenatchi, Chelan, Entiat, Methow, Southern Okanagan, Sinkiuse-Columbia, and the Nez Perce of Chief Joseph's Band.
