The Prairie Island Indian Community of Minnesota held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a $19 million casino expansion project.

The Treasure Island Resort and Casino will see a 40,000 square-foot addition. It will feature a fitness center, an upscale spa and salon and a water park.

"This project is the latest investment that we will make in the region and we continue to be a strong contributor to the local economy," President Ron Johnson said in a statement quoted by the local media. "We continue to look for opportunities to add amenities and excitement to what Treasure Island Resort & Casino has to offer our guests."

The project is expected to open in early 2016.
