Leaders of Nambe Pueblo announced construction of a modest gaming facility along a major highway in New Mexico.

The facility will be located adjacent to the Nambe Falls Travel Center just off U.S. 84/285. Plans call for a 7,310-square-foot casino with 180 slot machines.

"The Nambé Pueblo on behalf of our community welcomes the opportunity to create employment and serve our greater community with an excellent gaming experience,” Gov. Phillip Perez said in a press release, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

The tribe has been working on casino plans for several years. But a deal for a site on the main reservation fell through amid the national economic recession.

The new site is located away from the main reservation. It's only about a mile south of a much larger casino owned by Pojoaque Pueblo, whose leader does not object to the project.

Nambe already started work on the facility but an official groundbreaking will be held tomorrow. The casino is expected to open in November.
