The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is still interested in a casino near the Massachusetts border, WBZ NewsRadio reports.

The tribe floated the idea last year in order to counter competition from its neighbor. MGM Resorts International will open a commercial facility in downtown Springfield, less than 10 miles from the state line.

"Clearly there’s going to be some impact when Massachusetts opens up,” Bobby Soper, a tribal member who will be the new president of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, told WBZ. “It makes sense for Connecticut to have a facility that will recapture lost business so we can maintain jobs, and tax revenues as well.”

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has expressed interest in joining the Mohegans. The tribes would need to have land placed in trust for the operation -- both fall under land claim settlements that appear to authorize additional acquisitions.

Back at home, the Mohegans will be announcing details tomorrow for a new 400-room hotel tower at the Mohegan Sun,
