The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut will issue $123 million in bonds to build a new casino hotel. The tribe will build a standalone hotel at the Mohegan Sun. The current facility is often booked to capacity, officials have said. The development comes amid an expansion of gaming in New England. Massachusetts has authorized two commercial casinos and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is awaiting federal approval for its First Light Resort and Casino. In the event the Mashpee plan doesn't come to fruition, the state has solicited bids for a third commercial facility. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino on its reservation, is reportedly interested in joining one of the groups vying for the license. Over in neighboring Rhode Island, a non-Indian facility wants to add poker games in order to counter the competition from Massachusetts. And back in Connecticut, non-Indian off-track betting facilities are lobbying for slot machines. Get the Story:
