The Washington State Gambling Commission voted 8-1 on Friday to approve Class III gaming compacts with 27 tribes. The agreement allows tribes to add more gaming devices to their facilities. They are almost at the cap of 28,000 machines set by 2007 compacts. "These 27 compact amendments are an important milestone for the people of Washington state and the Indian tribes," Chris Stearns, the chairman of the commission, said in a press release. "The commission is proud to have worked on a government to government basis with the tribes, as well as with the governor’s office.” The compacts will now be sent to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for approval.
