The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians shared $882,523 in gaming revenues with the local community in Michigan. Under a consent decree in federal court, the tribe shares 2 percent of slot machine revenues with government units, including public schools. Distributions occur twice a year -- in the winter and the summer. The latest distribution indicates that the tribe is still facing the effects of the national economic recession. The amount is lower than the $909,295 from February 2014, lower than the $947,754 from February 2013 and lower than the $958,867 from February 2012. "It is with great pleasure that the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians is able to provide all citizens of Northern Michigan with these services that are furnished solely by gaming revenues," the latest press release stated. Since the 2 percent distributions began in 1994, the tribe has shared more than $33.1 million with the community. Get the Story:
